Thinking back to your childhood, where was your safe place? Did you find solace at home, at school, at a friend’s, your room, or snuggled between your parents? Shaun and I have found ourselves looking at new mattresses for a while, but as we narrowed down our search, I brought up upgrading to a king bed from a queen – the reason? Our kids.
As a child, there is no better feeling than snuggling into your parents bed – whether you were sick, had a bad dream, or just needed some extra comfort; you felt safe. As our kids are getting older, Jaiden is starting to wake up after having bad dreams. He loves to come in and cuddle, but is then put back in his room (lucky for him, he recently had a room makeover which included a new double bed). Nova on the other hand, has always struggled with sleeping at night. I don’t think I can name a single instance she has not woken up at night from the time she is born. I expect she will most likely come into our room at night once she transitions from her crib into a toddler bed.
So, with that in mind, we made the switch from queen to king. The first few nights have been amazing. The kids love cuddling right before bed. Although it does make it harder putting them down in their own beds, I know that this will be a great choice for the future years and many comfy nights will be enjoyed by them in the safest place they can be.
