When you are a parent to little ones, small, every day moments can blend into the chaos of day to day life. But with my new job, I have been trying to slow down and appreciate the small moments, that although may seem mundane, are fleeting. From dance parties in the kitchen, to taking a break from dishes to simply be present and embrace the reality in front of me. The past week has been full of small, beautiful moments, that could easily become forgotten moments in time, but for me, I want to remember forever.
The kids attended their first birthday party; and although it was accompanied by sugar highs, screaming and mayhem, it was a wonderful event for the kids to play and meet new friends. Nova may have been trying to escape by finding every set of stairs she could, while Jaiden was busy scamming innocent bystanders in close proximity to the snack table for endless gummies – it was a success nonetheless. The kids played well with others, and even got compliments on their good behavior (despite the party occurring during Nova’s usual nap time).
Nova currently loves holding my hand. She is walking and wants to explore everywhere she can, but prefers to be holding my hand while she does it. When she reaches her hand out and says “hand”, her cute smile is enough to make a trying day melt away.
Night walks. Because Nova is on the move and wants to walk, when Shaun gets home from work we’ve been getting out and going on walks around the neighborhood. Although Nova doesn’t get far (Shaun and I switch off), it’s nice to get outside, reflect on the day, and spend individual time with Jaiden and Nova.
At the end of each week, I try to reminisce on the moments that made me smile. I take pictures daily so I can look back and remember them; even if the days are challenging, as time progresses, I know I’ll wish I was back in those trying moments with Jaiden and Nova, whose greatest joy in life is simply being with me.
