Close your eyes and it will be gone;
The years are short, though the days can be long.
Some moments are hard, others are perfect;
I promise the tough times will always be worth it.
Through the newborn phase, toddler, and child;
The days are chaotic, wonderful, and loud.
Once they become teens, you miss them more;
What was once a constant, becomes a revolving door.
They will grow big, make friends, and have their own life;
And you will stay up, worrying at night.
Are they safe, are they happy, are they doing fine?
The worries are constantly present in time.
So cherish these moments when your kids are young;
There are lots of hard days, but soon they’ll be done.
You’ll miss the cuddles, laughter and toys;
But with any luck, there will always be noise.
Your phone will ring and you will hear their voice;
And your heart will tell you, you made the right choice.
Once they become parents your bond will grow;
They will ask you for insight, and all that you know.
The days may be long, the years are short;
But being a parent is the very best part.
