The flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping, and today I wore a t-shirt for the first time in nearly six months! With warmer weather comes more time enjoying our backyard; what are my tips to prepare your yard for spring and summer? Find out below!
Weed and clean up your garden. If you have cold winters like we do, your gardens are often neglected, resulting in weeds and leaves galore. I weeded, trimmed our overgrown trees and shrubs, dug out dead plants, and bought new soil.

Revitalize your lawn. There are some patches and dead spots in our lawn. In order to get our lawn back to a lush green state, we apply lawn seed, and rely on our sprinkler system for watering (because we have kids, I like to avoid fertilizer).

Bring Out Your Outdoor Furniture & Other Items You Stored For Winter. We put most of the kids toys away for winter, cover our patio furniture and fire pit, and we store our patio umbrella in the garage. As soon as warmer weather arrives, I begin transforming our yard into the ultimate entertainment space for all ages. We don’t have the biggest backyard, but it is the perfect size for us (low maintenance too). Below are my favorite backyard items:

Throughout the spring and summer, I tend to the garden and lawn bi-weekly – which helps to keep maintenance fairly low annually. It’s true what they say: when you’re a homeowner, there is always work to be done! Have a backyard favorite I haven’t listed? Let me know below!
