Cleaning helps me decompress. Having a clean and organized house allows me to think more clearly, and minimizes my anxiety by having less on my to do list. Here are the things I do weekly to help keep our house organized and less chaotic:
Clean the bathrooms. I start off cleaning the bathrooms. I put toilet bowl cleaner in all our toilets, let it soak, and while it does that I clean the mirrors, countertops, sinks, clean the outer part of the toilets, and then clean the inside. I also switch out all of the hand and face towels and wash them. *We clean our shower and bathtubs once per month, so I don’t do them every time.
Dust. I dust every surface that needs it, and dust throughout the week as well.
Clean the kitchen. Every night I ensure the kitchen is clean before I go to bed (do all dishes, wipe down countertops and stovetop); however, on the weekend, I go a bit further and clean the fridge, pantry, cupboards and wipe down the backsplash.
Change everyone’s sheets. I change everyone’s sheets, as well as catch up on laundry.
Clean windows/glass doors. If you have kids, you’ll know why a weekly clean of any glass surfaces in your home is necessary.
Vacuum. Having two little ones means that there is a lot of food spilt throughout the week. I do a full vacuum of the house every week, and we have an iRobot to keep on top of our kitchen, living room, and high traffic areas.
Clean the floors. I don’t do this every week, but I do it at least once every couple of weeks. I am often wiping the floors due to Jaiden spilling something, so I stay on top of them pretty well as is.
And that concludes my weekly clean. All in all, it takes me about two hours to complete everything. I take breaks, and sometimes space tasks out throughout the weekend; although it may seem like a lot, cleaning throughout the week and staying on top of things helps it go quickly.
